Dementia: What You Need to Know

For readers around the world who don’t need to know about the UK health and social care system, these sections have been taken out, unless they are of general interest. Instead, there is more material on practical issues that have been suggested by readers.

This is a very informative book for anyone needing more information on dementia. I haven’t read it all but have dipped into chapters of interest. The author is very experienced in looking after dementia patients and gives a comprehensive summary of all types of dementia.

Across the world, 44 million people live with dementia. Hundreds of millions of people are affected by the dementia of parents, partners, siblings or friends. But most people who are diagnosed, or who are dealing with the diagnosis of a loved one, feel as though they are alone. This book fills the gap, providing practical information and support for living with, or caring for, Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

With clear and sensible information about recognising symptoms, getting help, managing financially, staying at home, treatment, being a carer and staying positive, this guide will help those with dementia and their families to make sure that they can stay well and happy as long as possible.

A difficult and sensitive subject handled with skill. I think it would be equally helpful for both carers and patients.
